iOS
From time to time we will release an update for your Astro Gold app with improvements, and sometimes new features. And we do try to announce new updates, including posting on the Astro Gold Facebook page. But since all updates are free, and you might not always see the announcement, it is a good idea to check regularly to see if an update is available.
ASTRO GOLD FOR MAC
Open the app, click on the words Astro Gold next to the Apple Logo at the top of the screen, then click Check for Updates from the dropdown menu. If this is greyed out then you have Auto Updates for all apps selected in your Settings.
ASTRO GOLD FOR IPHONE/IPAD
If you have an older iOS:
- Tap the App Store icon, and then the Updates icon at the bottom of the next screen.
- You will see any available app updates on the next screen. If one is available for Astro Gold, just tap it to update your app.
If your iOS is fairly current:
- Tap the App Store icon, and then the Apps icon at the bottom of the next screen.
- In the upper right corner of the screen you will now see your Apple profile icon. It may be a picture of you. Tap it and it will open up your Account window.
- Now, scroll down and if you have any apps with updates (including Astro Gold) you will first see the option to Update All. Keep scrolling and if one is available for Astro Gold, just tap it to update your app.
ASTRO GOLD FOR ANDROID
Tap the Google Play Store app, then tap the menu icon
Tap My apps & games
All updates will be labelled “Update”. If one is available for Astro Gold, just tap it to update your app.
There is no option to clear the whole list. However, individual entries may be deleted from this list by side-swiping the entry then tapping on the Delete button that appears.
If you have an Apple TV, then you can use AirPlay “Mirroring” to display the iPhone or iPad screen on the TV.
There are two types of interpretations in Astro Gold.
Firstly you can read interpretations on the screen of your Astro Gold. These come free with the app and cannot be printed or emailed.
You also have the option to purchase Professional Reports within the app and yes, once you have opened the purchased report in your Astro Gold app, there is a small box with an arrow through it at the top right of your screen, which is the Send To icon. When you click on this icon, it will offer several options. You can choose the Mail option to email a copy of the report as a PDF. If you have set up a connection to a printer, using Airprint, you can also choose to send the report to your printer. And you may have other options you can use as well, such as sending a copy to your Dropbox if you have that app installed.
Once you have downloaded your app, yes the app can be run without an internet connection. However, in this case there is no means of importing or exporting charts, so only charts pre-supplied with the app, or created (and optionally saved) by the user within the app can be used.
Yes. Apple shows the requirements for any app on it’s app description page. Currently this says “Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Requires iOS 6.0 or later.” Note that Apple doesn’t allow you to purchase or download any app which is not compatible with any devices that you are using with your current iTunes account.
iPod Touch will also do voice memos so you can record the consultations and later email them to clients. Now we can do the chart from our pocket as well! So says one of our customers.
Thank You!
Esoteric Technologies is pleased to offer excellent astrology apps for three different operating systems: Astro Gold for iOS, Astro Gold for Mac OSX, and Astro Gold for Android. They each have a slightly different set of features, although they have been designed to have a similar a look and feel and ease of use. Note that chart files created by any one of these apps can be sent to and used by any of the others, as well as being compatible with chart files created with the Windows program Solar Fire.
However, it is important to understand that each of these is a separate app, designed by our programmers who spent years, in total, creating and developing each app to work at its very best on each specific operating system. So, when you purchase one of the apps for a specific operating system you are only purchasing the app for that specific operating system (although you can run it on more than one device you own which runs that same operating system, for example on both an iPhone and an iPad if you purchased the iOS app). You are of course welcome to purchase the different apps if you have devices for more than one of these operating system, but the apps are not interchangeable – they are sold via totally different app store systems. In other words, if you purchase Astro Gold for one operating system (such as the iOS app for an iPhone or iPad), and you decide to get a device with a different operating system (such as an Android), you cannot trade one Astro Gold app in for another. If you want Astro Gold on your second (or third) operating system, they must be purchased separately.
Because the screen is small you just don’t have room to have a control or button for every type of action. Hence it is sometimes necessary to rely on certain behaviours that Apple has built into the iOS user interface.
Some examples of these are:
1) Pinch to zoom out – if a view is zoomable and not already zoomed out to full extent then move fingers together to zoom out
2) Reverse-pinch to zoom in – if a view is zoomable and not already zoomed in to full extent then move fingers apart to zoom in
To delete a chart inside a file, swipe across the cell displaying the chart details. This will present a delete button. (Swiping is a fairly standard way of deleting a cell when there is no special Edit button or similar available).
Chart Import/Export
Chart files may also be interchanged between this app and any other computer via email. This can be used to save and restore backup copies of your chart files, and if you own the Solar Fire astrology program (v6 or higher), then you may also use your chart files interchangeably with that program.
On iOS, chart files may be added to, or downloaded from this app via the iTunes File Sharing feature. However, emailing them is generally easier.
Exporting Charts via Email
To export chart files, tap on the Settings tab and select Export Chart Files. This allows you to select one or more chart files, which are then attached to an email and sent to whatever email address you wish.
Importing Charts via Email
To import a chart file, you must attach a Solar Fire v6+ chart file (*.SFcht) to an email and then send it to your device, and open it in the email app. In the email app, open this email and tap on the attached chart file, and you will be prompted whether or not you wish to open it in this app. If a chart file of the same name already exists in this app, then you will prompted whether to overwrite the existing file, or else to change its name before it is added. Name changes of this type involve adding an underscore and a number to the end of the filename. After adding a chart file this way, you can access it from a list of all chart files when selecting a chart to open from file, or when saving a chart to file, or when exporting a chart file.
Using File Sharing (iOS)
- Open iTunes with your device plugged in (iPhone or iPad)
- Highlight the plugged in device
- Select the “App” tab
- Under “File Sharing”, highlight the AstroGold app
- Select all the chart file entries
- Click on “Save to…” button and choose a location to store your backup of these chart files Then, if you ever lose your charts from Astro Gold (for example by deleting the app entirely), you can always restore them again by using the “Add…” button here and then choosing the same chart files from the location in which you stored them.
The answer is different for each Astro Gold app on the different devices.
In your Astro Gold macOS the way to update depends on whether or not you have Auto Updates selected under Settings. If you do then your Astro Gold macOS version automatically updates when you are connected to the internet. If you don’t then you need to open the app, click on the words Astro Gold next to the Apple Logo at the top of the screen, then click Check for Updates from the drop-down menu.

- Sep (Oth) = Separating with all other bodies.
- Click in the column for the aspect you want to change, and type over the numbers to enter your own orb.
- If you want to create a new aspect set with different orbs than one that already exists, you can start with the existing one, like Standard.asp, and when you are done changing all the orbs to meet your needs click the Save As button at the bottom, create a new name for this revised aspect set, and that way you can have two different aspect sets.
ASTRO GOLD FOR IPHONE/IPAD, ASTRO GOLD FOR ANDROID
- Click the Settings icon, click Aspects and then click Edit
- Click on the aspect set that you want to adjust. You will now see all the aspects available in Astro Gold. Make sure the aspect you want to included is turned on.

- Sep (Luminary) = Separating with Sun or Moon
- App (Other) = Applying with all other bodies
- Sep (Other) = Separating with all other bodies.
- Click in the row for the aspect orb you want to change, and type over the numbers to enter your own orb.
This changes your existing aspect set. You cannot add new Aspects Sets to the iOS version.
ITUNES METHOD
1. Connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch to your Mac
2. Open iTunes on your Mac so it will be available when you are ready.
3. Open Astro Gold on your Mac.
4. Click the Select button to take you to your chart files, and then click Open chart.
5. Click the file button at the top left, and it will show you your various chart files, and you will see the location of each one. For example, if you are looking for a file called MyCharts you may see it listed something like /user/Mac/Documents/MyCharts.SFcht. That means that you will find the MyCharts.SFcht file somewhere in your Documents folder. Please make a note of the location for each chart file you wish to copy onto your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
6. Now you can close or minimize Astro Gold on the Mac, as you will not be needing it any further for this process.
7. Go to the folder you noted as the location of your chart file(s), and open the folder, so if the file is in your Documents folder, you need to open Documents. You should either see your chart file in that folder, or if not, you may see another folder in there called Astro Gold…open that one.
8. Now look for the chart file you want to copy, such as MyCharts.SFchat file. You’ll go back to it shortly, but you can minimize that folder for a moment.
9. Open the minimized iTunes program, and click on the picture at the top that looks like an iPhone. This basically is how your iPhone shows in iTunes.
10. Find the Apps item and click on that, and it should open the Apps file. Don’t worry about what is or isn’t in there. Scroll down until you get to the section that says Sharing or Shared apps. Click on Astro Gold, and on the right side in the Documents section you should see all of the chart files that currently exist on the iPhone’s Astro Gold app.
11. Now, go back to that file you minimized, in your Documents file. Find the first one you want to copy (such as MyCharts.SFcht) and drag it into the Astro Gold Shared/Documents section in iTunes. If there is a file already in there, you will get a popup asking if you want to replace the old with the new. Say yes.
12. Now, used iTunes to synchronize your iPhone, and you should have all the charts from the Mac in your iPhone.
EMAIL METHOD
Follow steps 1-5, above.
6. Email each chart file you want to copy as an attachment, and send it to yourself at an address you can access from your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.
7. Open the email on the device once received, and click to open the file attached. This will open the chart file in Astro Gold on this device.
In reverse, you can also email the chart file from your mobile Astro Gold app to an email you can access on your Mac, and then click on it to open it in your Mac version of Astro Gold.
It is quite easy to move Astro Gold to a new iPhone, but before you do so, it is important that you note two things. Firstly, please back up all your chart files first. Secondly please make sure you have logged onto iTunes with the same Apple ID you used when you purchased Astro Gold.
BACKING UP YOUR CHARTS
You can either do this using iTunes, or export your charts to yourself by email. Once you have backed your charts up, please note where you are storing them so you can access them later.
But for most people, the best way to backup charts is to turn on the option to save them on the iCloud. In this way, you are in effect backing up each chart as you save it, so you don’t have to take the time to do a manual backup. And what’s more, once you start saving charts on the iCloud drive on one device, you can access them from any other Astro Gold for iPhone, iPad or Mac app that you have, and even access them on a Windows computer to view them in Solar Fire.
PUTTING ASTRO GOLD ON YOUR NEW IPHONE
Once you have purchased an App from iTunes, you can download it again anytime you need to, on any iPhone or iPad. You will not have to pay for it again. However, in order to do so you MUST be using the same Apple ID you used when you purchased Astro Gold. Simply go to the iTunes App Store on your new device, search for Astro Gold, and tap to download and install it on your new iPad or iPhone!
RESTORING YOUR CHART FILES
Now that you have Astro Gold on your new device you will want to make sure you have all of your chart files as well. The easiest way to do so is to connect your iPhone/iPad to a computer where you have previously downloaded iTunes (making sure you have logged onto iTunes with the same Apple ID you used when you purchased Astro Gold), and use iTunes to Synch with your device. That should put all of your chart files into Astro Gold on your new device.
IF YOUR CHART FILES ARE NOT IN ASTRO GOLD
You can now use the files you saved, in a folder on your computer, to restore your chart files.
* If you emailed them to yourself to backup, and you have the email on the new device, you can click each chart file attached to the email to install it in Astro Gold.
* Alternately, you can go to the File Sharing section of iTunes, click on Astro Gold, click the Add file button, select the chart files you saved, and click Open to install them in Astro Gold.
The professional version of the Atlas used by Astro Gold is used around the world. However, it does require you to enter anywhere in the USA with its state name in the “country” field, and not just to enter “USA”. For instance, you should enter “CA” or “California” (not “USA”) into the “country” field if you want to look up Los Angeles. If you do enter “USA” in the “country” field, and then you will find that Astro Gold tells you that it can’t find either the country or the place. We will consider having the app read “country/state” rather than just “country”, but we cannot easily do this due to the space limitations of such a small screen.
The reason that the ACS uses this different protocol for US places is that there are many duplicate names in different US states, so if the state name is not known it would often result in getting the wrong place. So, the Atlas requires ‘states’ for the USA, and country names for everywhere else, and “country” really means “country or US state name”.
Apps you purchase from the iTunes Store can be installed across all your iOS devices as long as the iTunes account associated with those devices is the same. So if you have Astro Gold on your iPhone (or visa versa), you can also download and install it on your iPad for no additional charge. Just open the App Store on your second device, and search for Astro Gold, and tap on the download button.
Astro Gold is one purchase only for both iPad and iPhone. So, no, you do not have to pay again.
Astro Gold for iPhone/iPad includes a number of Professional Reports, such as the Birth Chart Report, and the Birthday Report.
Before you can locate your report, the first thing you need to do is to make sure the purchase was completed. If the purchase was successful, you should have received a message from the Apple Store that said “Thank you. Your purchase was successful.” If you did not receive such a message, then for some reason you have not purchased the report, and it will not be available to you. You will need to try again to purchase it.
If, however, you did receive the Thank You message, your purchase did go through. So now, let’s see how to locate it.
Once you have paid for the report, it takes a few moments for it to be generated. If you wait a few minutes, the report should open automatically in Astro Gold.
But sometimes it doesn’t. What happens on occasion is that a person will leave the purchase dialog before the report generation is finished. In that case, Apple will issue a credit. Then, what needs to be done is to go to the Report window again, as if planning to purchase the same type of report, and instead of a dollar amount there should be a Credit listed for that report. Tap the Credit option, and because Astro Gold knows which report was purchased, it will open the report.
Once you have the report on your screen, you will see a few options you can tap. Done will close that report.
To the left of the word Done you will see one that has a square with an arrow….tapping this one will allow you to send the report to an email address of your choice, or save it to any app you have that can read a PDF, such as iBooks, or DropBox.
And further to the left is a little flag symbol. If you tap on that flag, you will then see it change colour, and you will be saving it on your iPhone or iPad as a Favourite. If you choose to save it as a Favourite, then you will be able to find it any time you want at the bottom of the Professional Reports screen in the My Saved Reports section.
Facebook is an excellent forum for discussions. We have a Solar Fire astrology group and an Astro Gold group, great places to help you better understand your software, and share ideas and techniques with others.
If you have a technical question then it is possible that there may be other group members that are willing and able to help you, but in general this is not the best place to post technical issues, especially given that it may not be seen by anyone who can actually help.
The first thing we suggest is that you check the documentation that comes with your app. You may find that the solution is there and that you can resolve any issues yourself.
If you can’t find the answer in the documentation, it’s time to contact our Technical Support people, and to make this easy for you, each of our apps provides you with a way to send them a description of your problem, and technical details about your specific setup. This enables them to respond as swiftly as possible and work with you to find the answers to your issue, so please provide a clear description of your issues when you send off the support email.
You can also contact us directly by email, or if you prefer, by telephone, Fax or regular mail. If using one of these methods, make sure you include the following information:
. Describe in detail your specific issue
. If you are receiving an error message, please include the exact wording of the message, or a screenshot of the message.
. If you working on something when the problem occurred, exactly what were you trying to do? And were you able to do the job previously without a problem, and if so, when did you first experience the issue?
. Which program you are using, and which version
. What operating system are you using, and which version (Windows 7, Windows 8, Mac , iPhone?)
The Black Moon is one of the chart points that can be displayed in any chart in both Solar Fire and Astro Gold. It is also sometimes known as the Black Moon Lilith, which can be a bit confusing because there is also a point some astrologers use called the Dark Moon Lilith, and another called the Asteroid Lilith. (Solar Fire can also calculate these two Liliths as well, but at present only the Black Moon Lilith is available as a regular chart point in both Solar Fire and Astro Gold.)
The Black Moon is not an actual body, but rather is the empty focal point of the Moons orbit around the earth, which is also the apogee of the Moons orbit.
There are two settings for the Black Moon in Solar Fire, and in Astro Gold, and in order for you to show the identically calculated point in both programs you need to make sure you have the settings correct in both programs. The settings are either the true (osculating) apogee or the mean apogee. (True Apogee – is the position of the moon’s apogee, taking into account short term fluctuations (osculations) in the plane of the moons orbit. Mean Apogee – is the position of the moon’s apogee according to a mathematical formula which ignores many of the minor perturbations in its orbit.)
ASTRO GOLD
Open Settings and scroll down until you see Black Moon. Click on Mean or True, as is your preference.
SOLAR FIRE
At the top of Solar Fire, click on Preferences, and then Edit settings. Click on the Calculations tab, and then in the Black Moon section click either True Apogee or Mean Apogee, whichever is your preference. Then click OK.

Yes – the limitation is storage size available. However, as each chart takes up only about 200 bytes of storage, even a chart file with 1000 charts would only take about 0.2MB of storage. Hence in practical terms any storage space limitation is very unlikely to ever become a problem.
Getting iPhone & iPad Crash Reports on a Windows PC:
Sync the iOS device with iTunes, then look in the following locations:
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Application Data\Apple computer\Logs\CrashReporter\
Windows Vista & Windows 7: C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\Apple computer\Logs\CrashReporter\MobileDevice\
Search for the appropriate device name, then look for the file by app name and time stamp
The most frequent cause of a wrong Ascendant is not allowing the built in atlas to look up the coordinates for the chart. When entering chart data, enter personal data then tap in latitude box and allow the program to auto look up coordinates.
As you will appreciate Astro Gold was designed for small mobile screens and to avoid overcrowding the display, we found more suitable ways of displaying this data. If you are using the default wheel designs, Retrograde planets will have their degrees and minutes displayed in the colour red and Direct planets will have the information in Black. However, you may instead also choose a different Wheel Style that displays the Retrograde symbol explicitly, if you prefer.
App orientation: The app responds automatically to the orientation that the device reports to the app. This is not something that the app controls – it is part of the iOS operating system. If the orientation is upside down, you would need to tilt the device towards you to re-orient it to your side. The landscape/portrait changes in view follow Apple’s recommendations – a lot of apps use the same paradigm in their design. It is possible to set the orientation lock on the iPad – this would prevent it ever going into landscape mode or upside down portrait mode, regardless of how the device is held.
If you have Astro Gold on iPhones, iPads and/or Mac computers, you can share your chart files between them courtesy of Apple’s iCloud Drive. First, though, you need to make sure it is turned on on each device you use, and that you are logged into the iCloud Drive with the exact same Apple ID or email address….you cannot share files between your devices if they are logged into two different iCloud Drive accounts.
IPHONE AND IPAD
The first step is to make sure that you have the iCloud Drive turned on in your device settings. The following screenshots are from an iPhone, but the procedure is the same for the iPad.
Click on the Settings icon on your iPhone or iPad to get to the Settings screen. You should see near the top your name, and an arrow you can click on to get to the iCloud.
Once you have clicked on the arrow, scroll down if necessary until you see the word iCloud and click on it
Now, look for the iCloud Drive and, if it is not turned on, click on the button so it turns green
Now exit settings, and open up Astro Gold.
Click on the Settings app at the bottom of your device.
Look at the bottom of the settings page. If it says iCloud Drive Enabled you are done with setup. But if it says iCloud Drive Disabled, click on it
You will then get a message with the heading Charts are Stored Locally. Click on the words Switch to iCloud
You should now see that the iCloud Drive is Enabled, and you are done setting up on this device.
MAC COMPUTER
First, make sure the iCloud Drive is enabled on your Mac.
Click on the Apple menu icon in the upper left corner of your Mac. Click on System Preferences. Click on iCloud. Tick the box for iCloud Drive to enable it.
Once you have enabled it, you can check to make sure it shows up on your Mac under Favorites.
Now open Astro Gold. It should communicate with the iCloud Drive, and you should then see Astro Gold showing as an item in iCloud. Click on it and you should see your chart files to the right.
Please provide us with the following information that will help with a faster response to your query!

There is a lot of information on the internet about the dates when the country of Turkey used Daylight Savings Time, and unfortunately, not all of it is correct.
Many astrological software programs include atlases that include Turkey’s time changes, but also unfortunately, some of these are based on incorrect data and will, therefore, calculate charts that may be off a whole hour.
So how do you tell if the website, or the astrological program, is giving you the correct timezone for Turkey?
The best way is to go to a reliable source to verify the time changes. And probably THE most reliable source is the Turkish Government, since they are the ones that have always decided what the time should be in their country on any given date.
Astro Gold, and Solar Fire, use the ACS atlas for longitude, latitude and time zones. And this atlas uses the Turkish time zone data that have been decreed by the country’s government. You can rely on the calculations of these programs.
However, since the late 1960’s and early 1970’s have been showing up a number of places with incorrect data, I am going to give you a table (based on Turkish Government documentation) so you will know for sure whether your chart is using standard time (two hours from UT) or daylight savings time (three hours from UT). (Note: DST continued 1974-1977, but was then again not observed 1978 or 1979):
1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972 | No daylight savings time. Time is 2 hours from UT year round. |
1973, from 1 am 3 June – 2 am 1 November | Daylight savings is observed. Time is 3 hours from UT |

- Fixed Position (to create a point with user supplied zodiacal position into charts)
Astro Gold for iOS has an excellent atlas, and most places you will look for when you go to create a chart will be found in this atlas. But sometimes a city cannot be found in this atlas, and when this happens, Astro Gold provides a way to search Google Maps for the location.
Once you have entered the Country (or the State, if the location is in the USA), you next type in the Place (city, town, etc.), and click the circled arrow to the right of it to check the atlas. But if you know you have typed the location in correctly, and the atlas does not find it, a message will pop up stating Lookup failed, and letting you know that the Placename you typed was not found in the country (or State) you had typed. You click OK to get rid of that message, and you are back at the data entry screen. Now it is time (as long as you are connected to the internet either through your network carrier’s data network, or through a Wi-Fi signal) to search Google Maps. And to do this, you click on the blue world globe symbol to the left of the Place field. A map will open up, and at the top there will be a place for you to type in the location. Once you have done so, tap the Search button, and if you have typed the location correctly, the map should hone in on the city or town, showing a banner with the location. Below the name in this banner you will see the words Tap to save and select this location. Go ahead and tap the banner, and you will be given the opportunity to save the found location to your personal atlas. The name of the city or town will show there, but you can change it to something else if you’d like. (For example, you may have searched for the location of your mother’s birth town, so if you’d like you can name it “Mother’s place”.) Once you have accepted, or changed, the name of the location, tap the Save button. (If you have already saved the location previously, you will get a message stating this is a Duplicate Place, and asking if you want to proceed to overwrite the previous saved location.) Once you have saved the location, you will be returned to the data entry screen, and the longitude, latitude and time zone of the found location will be entered for you.
If Apple is unable to obtain the necessary receipt details from your iTunes app store account (which may just be because you have no internet connection, or because their system is down) then you may see this message.
- Close the app.
- If necessary, make sure you are logged into the iTunes app store account for which Astro Gold was purchased. (Skip this step if you are sure you are already using the correct app store iTunes account).
- Re-open the app, again. It will then prompt you for your Apple ID password. Please enter this. As long as you are using the same ID as the one with which you purchased the Astro Gold app then all should be ok.
You get the same options that you get when trying to Import a chart from email to your local chart files i.e. Merge / Overwrite / Add with new filename.
You don’t get any option. The first device that you use to switch on iCloud determines what files appear in iCloud drive. When you switch on later devices, you lose access to your local files on that device, and instead see what chart files were already in iCloud Drive.
Astro Gold gives you a number of different house systems to choose from. You can choose one of the Traditional House Systems:
· Alcabitius, Bhava, Campanus, Equal House, Koch, Meridian, Morinus, Placidus, Porphyry, Regiomantus, Solar Sign, Topocentric, and Whole Sign.
Or, you can choose one of the other specialised house systems based on using a specific point as the cusp of a house, with the remaining houses in 30 degree increments from this point – this includes:
· 0 Aries, Sun on 1st, Moon on 1st, Mercury on 1st, Venus on 1st, Mars on 1st, Jupiter on 1st, Saturn on 1st, Uranus on 1st, Neptune on 1st, Pluto on 1st, Node on 1st, East Point on 1st, Part of Fortune on 1st, Asc on 1st, Vertex on 7th, MC on the 10th
Once you have decided which house system you wish to use, Astro Gold makes it easy to select it for your chart calculations.
· Click in the Settings icon in the Toolbar to display the Preferences” dialog box.
· Click on Calcs – there you will see the house system that is currently selected.
· Click on the dropdown textbox labelled House System which lists all of your choices.
· Click on the House System in the list you want – this will select that house system. Should you ever wish to change to another system, just repeat these four steps.
By default, the Astro Gold apps choose True Node rather than Mean Node as the initial setting. You can easily change this in Settings. The same rule applies to the Black Moon which is set to True.
Displayed Points are those points which are displayed in chart wheels and grids, as well as included in reports and listings. If you unselect a displayed point in the app’s settings, then it will no longer appear in any wheels, grids, reports or listings.
Aspected Points are those which are used to display aspect lines inside the chart wheel (for wheel designs which include aspect lines in the middle). Note that this selection affects ONLY the aspect lines displayed inside a chart wheel. All grids, reports and listings include all points in the Displayed Points settings.
There is a potential ambiguity as to what should happen when you step by a “day”. Should it be a 24 hour period, or should it be a calendar day locked to local clock time? The latter is usually 24 hours, but might also be 23 or 25 hours or even something different again, depending on whether daylight savings changes take place on that day, and how much daylight savings adjustment there is.
When you step the chart in Astro Gold by a day, this is implemented as step of 24 elapsed hours, rather than a calendar day. It would be possible to implement the alternative method if people have a particular need for it, but note that you can still adjust for this manually by stepping the chart back or forth by an additional hour if you wish.
While most astrologers use the identical, on day equals one year, method for calculating the planets in a secondary progressed chart, there is less agreement over the method of calculating the house cusps.
For this reason, Astro Gold gives you a choice of five different methods to calculate the house cusps: Solar Arc in Longitude, Solar Arc in R.A., Naibod in Longitude, Naibod in R.A., and Mean Quotidian. You can choose your method by tapping Settings, then Chart Calculations, then scrolling down and choosing from the dropdown menu under Progressions.
According to AstroDienst, they have chosen the method that is most commonly used by astrologers in Continental Europe, and that is using the Naibod in R.A. method. So, if you select that method in the Astro Gold settings, your progressed house cusps should match those calculated by AstroDienst.
Which method gives the most accurate predictive results? That is up to you, the astrologer, to decide by experimenting. The two most widely used methods are the Naibod method (mentioned above), and Solar Arc in R.A. Noted astrologer Steve Forrest tells us that the “Solar Arc and Naibod produce very nearly identical results.”
However, you may instead also choose a different Wheel Style that displays the Retrograde symbol explicitly. For a single wheel, use AstroGoldR.wh1, and for a Biwheel choose AstroGoldR.wh2
In some cases, as a one-off event, after installing an update to Astro Gold, or if restoring it from a backup or from iCloud, you may be prompted to enter your iTunes password. The reason for this is that, starting with iOS7, Apple implemented a system whereby they automatically store your app’s purchase receipt, encrypted, within the app itself, at the time of purchase. They recommend that any apps of significant value (and Astro Gold is certainly one of those) look for this embedded encrypted receipt to ensure that the app is not a jailbroken/pirated version, and if not present then, automatically, to request verification from Apple. If this receipt is not present, the app asks Apple to query their records for your iTunes account, for which they prompt you for your password, and when they verify that you did indeed purchase it, they insert the encrypted receipt into the app, so that in future it is always recognised as a bone-fide installation.
Note that this is NOT a prompt to purchase anything, and it is a prompt issued by Apple, and not by the app. Note that if it was for a purchase, Apple would ALWAYS tell you exactly what you are about to purchase, how much and ask your explicit permission before they charge your account, and in this case that does not happen. Instead they just require your password in order to verify that you are the owner who purchased the app, and thereafter this will not be required again.
Astro Gold uses the Swiss Ephemeris for start of the art, precision calculations, but it is only able to accurately calculate positions in the range from 1200 BC to 2400 AD.

Files / Folders that may be created by installing and running Astro Gold macOS, and can be deleted if user wishes to entirely remove all traces of the app:
1. Main Application File
- /Applications/Astro Gold.app
2. Additional Folders (and all their contained files)
- /Users/[username]/Documents/Astro Gold
- /Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/com.ajnaware.Astro-Gold
- iCloud Drive/Astro Gold
A traditional chart, with the Earth at the center, is called a Geocentric
chart. With Astro Gold you can also calculate a Heliocentric Chart, which puts the Sun in the center.
When you calculate a Heliocentric Chart, if you want to show the Earth as one of the planets, you simply make sure the Sun is selected in Preferences on the
Displayed tab. Astro Gold will not put the Sun in the Heliocentric chart, but instead put the Earth in for you.
If you would like to choose your own color for the Earth symbol: In Preferences, click the Wheels tab, and then click just below the word Planets to edit the planetary colors. (It may say Tradit.) The Earth symbol is located here between the Moon and the Sun. Tap it, an use the color tool to choose the particular hue you want for the Earth in your Heliocentric chart.

You will find it a fairly simple process to transfer chart files from your IO software into Astro Gold. You can find a full set of instructions for this process here: http://www.astrogold.io/AG-MacOS-Help/import-from-time-cycles-io.html
Yes, you can join our Face Book Astro Gold group where ideas are discussed, questions are asked, and the latest news and features are announced. The link is http://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/228977903781527/

Yes – the limitation is storage size available. However, as each chart takes up only about 200 bytes of storage, even a chart file with 1000 charts would only take about 0.2MB of storage. Hence in practical terms any storage space limitation is very unlikely to ever become a problem.
There is a way to do it using the Watermark function.
1) Open the Wheel you want to print out
2) Click the sendto box (that is the little box with the arrow) at the upper right corner of the page
3) Click Print on PDF
4) In the printer window, pull the dropdown about halfway down that probably says Media & Quality and change it to Watermark
5) Now, here is where you set what you want to say and where on the page. For Location, if you want it at the Top of the page, choose Top from the dropdown, or Bottom, or whatever place you want. For Justification, I would suggest the centered option if you are having it at the top or bottom of the page. For Text, type in “Prepared by Linda” or whatever you want to say.
6) You will also notice a box that says Aa and if you click on that it allows you to select the font you want to use for your text
When you are finished. click Print and you will have your text on the page. You will need to set the text again for each chart you print (it will not remember it when you exit the Print screen)
Thank you for your enquiry. There are three things you need to do in order to get Astro Gold onto a new Mac:
- Back up your charts
- Download Astro Gold onto the new computer and register it
- Port your backed up charts into Astro Gold on the new computer
1) BACKING UP YOUR CHARTS
(If you have saved your charts onto the iCloud you can skip this step as you already have them backed up there.)
On the old Mac, all chart files are saved by Astro Gold into a folder in Documents called Astro Gold. (Unless you chose to save them somewhere else.)
- Get an external drive, such as a USB Drive (Thumb Drive, Flash Drive) and plug it into your Mac.
- Open up your Documents folder, find the Astro Gold folder (unless you saved them to another folder), and open it.
- Now copy the contents of that Astro Gold folder (or other folder you saved to) into the external drive.
- When all the files are copied over, remove the external drive and put it aside to use a bit later
2) DOWNLOAD ASTRO GOLD ONTO THE NEW COMPUTER
If you still have the original download letter you used to install Astro Gold on the old computer, email a copy of it to yourself onto the new computer. Open the email on the new computer, click to download and install Astro Gold (just like you did on the old computer) and register it with the license key as you did before. If you are able to do that, you can reboot your Mac and then reopen this email and skip to the next section.
If you no longer have that download letter then you will need to go through some additional steps.
- On the old Mac, open Astro Gold.
-
- At the top of the screen, above the app, in the far left corner is the Apple Logo. To the right of it are the words Astro Gold. Click those words.
- In the menu that comes up, choose the option to Register the app
- In the next window it will say you are registered and show your license key, but will not allow you to copy it. So click the button that says Change license
- Now, copy all of the license key from the next screen, and paste it into an email to send to yourself on the new computer. You may also want to make note of the way your name is listed (for example, if you use a middle name but did not have one when you registered, or visa versa. The name needs to be the same on both computers. Make sure you close this screen after you copy the info so you don’t accidentally change the license key on the old Mac
- On the new Mac, go to our website https://www.astrogold.io/get-astro-gold/for-macos/ and scroll down, click to download the Demo version of Astro Gold. When the Demo is downloaded, open it.
-
- Open the email you sent to yourself to with the license key.
- Now follow the steps 1a and 1b above, then use the license key to register the Demo and it will convert to a full version of the app.
3) INPUTTING YOUR BACKED UP CHARTS INTO ASTRO GOLD
Plug in that USB in the new computer. Open the Documents folder on the new computer, then open the Astro Gold folder. Then click to open the USB and copy all backed up chart files into the Astro Gold folder
INPUTTING CHART FILES FROM THE ICLOUD DRIVE
If you saved charts on the iCloud drive from the old computer, you now need to turn on the iCloud Drive on the new computer (making sure you log in with the same Apple ID). If you need help with this, let me know and I will send you a pdf explaining the procedure.
The most frequent cause of a wrong Ascendant is not allowing the built in atlas to look up the coordinates for the chart. When entering chart data, use the tab key to move from field to field (or box to box) and letting the coordinates auto look up.
Mac computers have a system feature called Gatekeeper, which keeps users from automatically opening any app not downloaded directly from the Mac App Store. However, they do provide a fairly easy way to open apps like Astro Gold with only a few extra steps.
If you so get a message telling you that the app cannot be opened, then click OK on the message to close it. Then
open your Downloads folder and find the Astro Gold app you are trying to run. Drag Astro Gold into your Applications folder. Now, either Control-click, or right-click, the Astro Gold app you just put in Applications. This will give you a menu, and at the top of that menu, click the word Open. You should now get a message saying “Astro Gold” is from an unidentified developer, and are you sure you want to open it? Click on the Open button on that message. Astro Gold should open now, and it should open without a problem any other time you want to run it as well.

- Click on Displayed Points – there you will see a list of all available points, with those selected indicated with a tick mark or highlight.
- Click on any entry in this list to toggle it on or off.
Extra points:
- Click on the Settings icon in the Toolbar to display the user preferences settings.
- Click on Displayed Points

- Nodes & Apsides
- Fixed Position (to create a point with user supplied zodiacal position into charts)
However, you may instead also choose a different Wheel Style that displays the Retrograde symbol explicitly. For a single wheel, use AstroGoldR.wh1, and for a Biwheel choose AstroGoldR.wh2
Astro Gold uses the Swiss Ephemeris for start of the art, precision calculations, but it is only able to accurately calculate positions in the range from 1200 BC to 2400 AD.
Google provides a way for iOS apps to display detailed maps in an unlimited way, and even provide an API (application programming interface) for this specific purpose. However, the same is not true of macOS. For macOS, they not only charge substantial ongoing license fees for use of maps by the app’s users (and hence unsustainable to provide in an app that is not charging an ongoing subscription), but they also do not provide any equivalent API, thus making it technically much more difficult to implement in an app, and likely with less functionality than they provide for iOS.
That said we agree that it would be a nice feature to have and continue to monitor any new developments which might make it feasible.
Android
From time to time we will release an update for your Astro Gold app with improvements, and sometimes new features. And we do try to announce new updates, including posting on the Astro Gold Facebook page. But since all updates are free, and you might not always see the announcement, it is a good idea to check regularly to see if an update is available.

Unlike iPhones and iPads, which are all basically the same, each manufacturer of an Android device builds it their own way, and not all of them handle email or email attachments in exactly the same. We have found a method that works on most Android devices to get the chart file you sent to your Android to show up in Astro Gold, but you need to kind of trick the device.
The chart file you send in an email is still attached to the email, and so before we can get Astro Gold to view the chart file you need to detach the file from the email. So, open the email on the Android and you should have the option to download the file. Once it is downloaded it should go into your Download folder. Open that folder, tap the chart file that is in your Download folder and it should open it in Astro Gold.
However in some cases this does not work. If it does not work for you then you may want to contact the manufacturer of your android device and tell them that you cannot open attachments that come with your emails and request that this is rectified.

The most frequent cause of a wrong Ascendant is not allowing the built in atlas to look up the coordinates for the chart. When entering chart data, enter personal data then tap in latitude box and allow the program to auto look up coordinates.

Astro Gold for Android will run on any device that runs Android v7, v8 or v9, and has an official version of Google Play installed. It is not currently available for Android v10 or later. If you would like us to notify you when we have updated Astro Gold to work with Android v10 or better, we will be happy to do so if we have your email address.
However, you may instead also choose a different Wheel Style that displays the Retrograde symbol explicitly. For a single wheel, use AstroGoldR.wh1, and for a Biwheel choose AstroGoldR.wh2
Astro Gold uses the Swiss Ephemeris for start of the art, precision calculations, but it is only able to accurately calculate positions in the range from 1200 BC to 2400 AD.
iCloud
Yes, once you’ve enabled iCloud drive in the app, then any chart file you import will end up in iCloud Drive, including any you get from email attachments. This is one of the wonderful advantages of Astro Gold’s ability to store chart files on the iCloud Drive. Also if you have Astro Gold for macOS you may find it even easier to import and store your Solar Fire chart files. On your Mac you just drag and drop chart files into the iCloud Drive Astro Gold folder (which appears as a new folder as soon as you enable iCloud Drive in any Astro Gold app).
If you use the iCloud Drive to store any of your files, such as your Astro Gold charts, there may be times when you experience what I call IDP (iCloud Drive Panic). Look over the numerous posts on the apple website and you will see the symptoms of IDP. It appears to affect all types of files. For example, one user posted:
“I am in panic finding some files missing yesterday! I
have two Macs, the old one was running Sierra, and the other was running High Sierra 10.13.4. Days ago I upgraded the old on to High Sierra 10.13.5 and turned off both. I woke up next day finding some very important files in iCloud Drive vanished, including ALL Pages documents, some Word documents, PDFs which I had no local copy, but some other files are still there.”
Scary stuff! I can’t imagine the horror of waking up one day and discovering months, or years, of client files suddenly gone! And unfortunately, it is a flaw in the iCloud system, not the app. So the app, like Astro Gold, is not at fault. But Apple does have solutions they recommend to get back your missing files…and this includes getting the chart files back. Most important, of course, is to make sure you have an internet connection turned on, as the files are stored in the cloud.
First, Apple recommends checking your storage quota. If you are only storing chart files on the iCloud Drive you can skip this one, as it is unlikely that you will fill up your quote with chart files alone. But if you store other files on the iCloud Drive (such as music, or video, or photos), check your available storage. The iCloud Drive gives you 5GB free storage, but
anything over that you have to pay for. And if you max out your free space, it not only stops you from adding new files, but sometimes can seem to make the files already there invisible. Apple recommends either purchasing more storage space, or deleting some files.
Second, if you have iCloud Drive active on more than one device, temporarily turn off iCloud Drive on all of the other devices so it is only on one device. Now turn iCloud drive off on the current device, restart the device, turn iCloud drive back on, and make sure you are signed in with the correct Apple ID. If that doesn’t work,
Third, turn off saving charts on the iCloud drive on Astro Gold, then turn it on. If that doesn’t work, restart the phone, and if that doesn’t work….
Fourth, Apple suggests you try to jumpstart the iCloud drive by saving another type of file, such as a Word document or photo, onto the iCloud. If you see that file showing, you should then see the files that had disappeared start to repopulate.
Fifth, Apple suggests that you check to make sure you did not accidentally delete your files, and the easiest way to do this is to log into iCloud.com with your Apple ID, and do one of the following:
- Click Account Settings, then in the bottom left-hand corner under Advanced, then click Restore Files. Wait for the files to populate, then look them over. You can either choose Select all, or tick the ones you want to restore. Click Restore, then click Done.
- Go to iCloud Drive, and then look in the bottom-right corner. Click Recently Deleted Items, and see if the chart files are there. If so you can restore them.
Sixth, if none of the above works, Apple suggests you contact their support department. Here is a general webpage for their support https://support.apple.com/contact but you may wish to find the Apple website for your specific country and then look for the support option from there.
The first step is to make sure that you have the iCloud Drive turned on, on your Mac.
- Click on the Apple menu icon in the upper left corner of your Mac.
- Click on System Preferences.
- Click on iCloud.
- Tick the box for iCloud Drive to enable it.
Once you have enabled it, you can check to make sure it shows up on your Mac under Favourites.
Now you are ready to tell Astro Gold to use the iCloud Drive
- Open Astro Gold.
- It should communicate with the iCloud Drive, and you should then see Astro Gold showing as an item in iCloud.
- Click on it and you should see your chart files to the right, and you should then be storing your Astro Gold for Mac charts on the iCloud Drive.
If you have set up the iCloud Drive on each device, as described above, then you will be sharing charts between all those devices, as long as you have signed on to the iCloud Drive with the identical Apple ID on each device.
However, it is important to note that the first device that select to switch onto the iCloud Drive determines which files will appear on the iCloud Drive on all your Astro Gold devices. After switching on the first device, when you then activate the iCloud Drive on a second device, you will lose access to any charts that had been locally saved on that second device and now only see the charts that were in the iCloud Drive on the first device.
So it is a good idea, before you activate the iCloud Drive on a second device, that you check the second device for any charts that only exist on that device. If you have such charts, and want to keep them, export those charts to the first device (for example, send them as an attachment to an email), and open them in Astro Gold. This will put those charts on the iCloud Drive, so you do not lose them.
Once you have the iCloud Drive activated on every iPhone, iPad or Mac computer that you have the Astro Gold app, any chart you create and save on any of these devices will be accessible by Astro Gold on all the other devices.
Because Solar Fire is a Windows program, it is not set up to automatically read chart files on the iCloud Drive. However, if you have a chart file on the iCloud Drive that is not yet in Solar Fire, OR one on the iCloud Drive that has more charts in it than the one of the same name in Solar Fire, there is an easy way to copy the files into Solar Fire.
- Open the iCloud Drive on your PC
- Open the Astro Gold folder.
- Double-click the chart file you want in Solar Fire, and it should open up in Solar Fire right away.
Or you can do the following:
- Open two folders on your PC side by side, the Solar Fire Charts folder, and the iCloud Astro Gold folder.
- Find the chart file in the Astro Gold folder, right click and choose copy.
- Left click in the charts folder, then right click and select paste which will copy that chart file into Solar Fire.
- Restart Solar Fire, and you should now see those additional chart files from Astro Gold.
If you have Solar Fire, and would like to make the charts accessible to Astro Gold on an iPad, an iPhone, or a Mac, you can do so easily by using iCloud Drive.
The first step is to make sure that you have the iCloud Drive app on your Windows computer.
- Download iCloud for Windows directly from the Apple website: https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT204283
- Open the file, and sign in to the iCloud with the same email address and password you use to sign in to the iCloud on your Apple devices. Usually, the email address is the same as your Apple ID.
- Make sure you tick the box on the iCloud Drive next to iCloud Drive, then click the Apply button.
Now you are ready to use the iCloud Drive on your PC. There are two ways to open the iCloud Drive:
- Look in your system tray at the bottom of Windows, and if you see the icon for the iCloud, click on it and then click Open iCloud Drive.
- Or, open Windows Explorer, and then under Quick Access, click on the folder labelled iCloud Drive.
And now you are ready to save charts from Solar Fire onto the iCloud Drive
- Once you have opened iCloud Drive on your PC, look for and open the Astro Gold folder.
- Open Solar Fire, and at the top click on Utilities.
- In the Utilities menu, click Open User Files Folder.
- Click to open the Charts folder
The next step is easiest if you can put the iCloud Drive Astro Gold folder, and the Solar Fire Charts folder, side by side on your screen.
- Select all of the chart files in the Charts folder that you want to access in Astro Gold, right click on them and click copy. Then left click into the Astro Gold folder, right click and click paste.
You will now be able to view all of those Solar Fire Chart files in any Astro Gold app you have on an iPhone, iPad or Mac computer
The first step is to make sure that you have the iCloud Drive turned on in your device settings.
- Click on the Settings icon on your iPhone or iPad to get to the Settings screen. You should see near the top your name, and an arrow you can click on to get to the iCloud.
- Once you have clicked on the arrow, scroll down if necessary until you see the word iCloud and click on it
- Now, look for the iCloud Drive and, if it is not turned on, click on the button so it turns green, which will turn it on.
- Now exit settings
Now you are ready to tell Astro Gold to use the iCloud Drive
- Open Astro Gold.
- Click on the Settings app at the bottom, which looks like gears.
- Look at the bottom of the settings page. (If it says iCloud Drive Enabled you are done with setup.)
- If it says iCloud Drive Disabled, click on it to get to the next page.
- You will then get a message about storing charts. Click on the words Switch to iCloud at the bottom of the message.
- You should now see that the iCloud Drive is Enabled, and you are done setup.
Whenever you save a new chart, or choose to open a previously saved chart, the charts will be stored on the iCloud Drive.
You can store up to 5GB of data for free on your iCloud Drive. This includes all of your files, not just Astro Gold. You may need to pay for extra storage. However please note that each Astro Gold chart takes up only about 200 bytes of stores, even a chart file with 1000 charts would only take about 0.2MB of storage. Hence in practical terms any extra storage space requirement is more likely to be prompted by your other file types.

How Tos
To delete a chart inside a file, swipe across the cell displaying the chart details. This will present a delete button. (Swiping is a fairly standard way of deleting a cell when there is no special Edit button or similar available).
Files / Folders that may be created by installing and running Astro Gold macOS, and can be deleted if user wishes to entirely remove all traces of the app:
1. Main Application File
- /Applications/Astro Gold.app
2. Additional Folders (and all their contained files)
- /Users/[username]/Documents/Astro Gold
- /Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/com.ajnaware.Astro-Gold
- iCloud Drive/Astro Gold

1. On the Selected Charts screen tap the arrow to go to the chart selection options
2. Tap Select From File to go to your list of chart files
If you want to delete a whole chart file at once
a. Tap on the Edit option at the top right of the screen
b. Tap on the Delete option (the minus sign) on the left of chart file you want to delete
c. To give you a chance to change your mind, you will now be asked to Cancel, or Delete. If you tap Delete, all the charts in that file will be gone.
If you want to delete a single chart
a. Tap on the chart file that contains the chart you want to delete
b. Long Press on the chart you want to delete, and hold your finger there for a few seconds to highlight the chart
c. Tap on the trash symbol on the upper right of the screen. This will delete that chart immediately.
You will find it a fairly simple process to transfer chart files from your IO software into Astro Gold. You can find a full set of instructions for this process here: http://www.astrogold.io/AG-MacOS-Help/import-from-time-cycles-io.html
Tech Queries
Once you have downloaded your app, yes the app can be run without an internet connection. However, in this case there is no means of importing or exporting charts, so only charts pre-supplied with the app, or created (and optionally saved) by the user within the app can be used.
Please provide us with the following information that will help with a faster response to your query!
