Astro Gold MacOS 5 User Guide

The "Now" button, one of the "Display Controls" on the Main Screen, updates a chart's time to the present time. It operates just the same as the "Clock" button initially does, the only difference being the Clock continues to keep the chart's time updated to the present in real time.

The "Now" button has a different effect depending on whether one or more charts are selected, and whether the Outer Ring chart is a natal chart or not. It functions very similar to the "Clock" button but doesn't keep updating.

1 Chart selected

The date and time of this chart is always updated to the present date and time for the location of the chart. This means the "present" for the location of the chart may not be the same in terms of date and time ... as the date and time where you are using the computer. This is because the chart location will be in a particular timezone, and if you are physically in a different timezone to this when you are using Astro Gold then the "present" will naturally be expressed as a different time and/or date to that of your physical location.

2 Charts selected

If there are two charts selected the Outer Ring (2nd) chart is always the one that is updated. If it is a natal chart then it is replaced with a current transits chart, using however the location of the natal chart it is replacing (which may not be the same as the Home Location). If the Outer Ring chart is a transits or subsidiary chart then it's date and time will simply be updated to the present for the location of the chart.

3 Charts selected

If there are three charts selected, as long as the Middle Ring chart is already a either a transits, secondary progressed or solar arc directed chart, then both the Middle and Outer Ring (2nd and 3rd) charts are also updated in the same way (as when two charts are selected).  In this case if the Outer Ring (3rd) chart is a natal chart then it is replaced with a current transits chart, using however the location of the natal chart it is replacing (which may not be the same as the Home Location). If the Outer Ring chart is already a transits or subsidiary chart then it's date and time will simply be updated to the present for the location of the chart.

4 Charts selected

If there are four charts selected, as long as both the Middle Ring charts are already either a transits, secondary progressed or solar arc directed chart, then both the two Middle and Outer Ring (2nd, 3rd and 4th) charts are also updated in the same way (as when two or three charts are selected). In this case if the Outer Ring (4th) chart is a natal chart then it is replaced with a current transits chart, using however the location of the natal chart it is replacing (which may not be the same as the Home Location). If the Outer Ring chart is already a transits or subsidiary chart then it's date and time will simply be updated to the present for the location of the chart.
